What's the fastest/least painful way to find the sync offset of two AC3 streams relative to each other? (say, if I wanted to sync two different language tracks)

I usually convert the two ac3s (only the first 5 or 10 minutes) to *.wav with e.g. besweet
After loading both wav files into cooledit I search for a characteristic noise (without music & speech)
The measurement is very precise!
You also can compare the two tracks (and listen to them simultaneously) in the "multitrack mixer".
