View Full Version : PowerISO makes corrupt file?

Well, this one really has me stumped.

I recently bought a Criterion boxed edition "Battle of Algiers," and as I usually do with prized DVDs, I attempted to make a backup.

First, I did a straight rip to HD with PowerISO, which gave me an ISO which I parked in a Battle.of.Algiers folder. Mounted an H drive and viewed the ISO, jumping back and forth to verify all was well. OK, looks and sounds good.

Then I opened the ISO with DVDshrink with presets on Auto=4,414MB@63.7%. DVDshrink shows Menus, Main Movie, etc, with VTS 1, 2, all alternate sound tracks & subs, perfectly normal, so DVDshrink sees the containers made by PowerISO. Problem is, the DVDshrink preview screen shows a corrupt image, big (90%) green blocks of artifact, but at about a third of the way through the file, it shows clear images & sound.

Remember, PowerISO plays the H-mounted movie perfectly. Also VLC plays the ISO from the HD folder perfectly fine. GSpot reports the file as not renderable. I might add that VLC will not play the ISO from the H-mounted ISO, which seems reasonable - maybe.

So my question is, Why is DVDshrink showing a corrupt file?

And, yes, we can just Shrink the movie (4 Hrs 36 min - actually, I did that first as per my usual routine , but I wanted to see what a PowerISO/DVDshrink combo would do, and what we got was an unreadable file, at least by DVDshrink and GSpot.

Any thoughts?

Hi!

I've personally never heard of "PowerISO".

1) Is it freeware or a commercial Program?

I did a straight rip to HD with PowerISO2) Is it capable of removing copy protection? - Or, perhaps, it simply made an ISO INCLUDING CSS copy protecton...

Its a commercial program whose main feature is its compressed image format (DAA). He's not using that though.

I'm guessing its a CSS issue as mentioned previously.

Hmm, good thought. I do not believe PowerISO is stripping the CSS.

Lemme check.
