Downsizing from 720p Question

Hello Peoples :)

Just a stupid question, pretty embaressed to ask it actually :confused:

Would it be better to resize my 16:9 clips from 1280 x 720 to 1024 x 576 or 720 x 576 ? Being 16:9 widescreen clips they are just going to get scaled to 1024 x 576 anyway and i figure i can keep more detail that way.

These clips are only ever going to be played on pc.

It depends how you like your quality/filesize tradeoff. If you use a larger target resolution you'll have an output file that closer represents the original image, but you'll need a higher bitrate to do so.

That said, if these are those SD clips you had before, the above goes out the window. Scale them to 720x576, which was the original resolution (or lower), any higher is just upscaling.

Cheers mate, they are seperate Planet Earth clips that are true 720p but the broadcaster didnt give them enough bandwidth.
