My new player plays mp4.. is it worth ripping in mp4 now?

Just got a new DVD player and it is mp4 capable ... do I now switch to ripping in mp4.. quality differences in audio Video? ..
I'm asking this to start debate not a flame war as I have not seen a thread on it yet.
presently using Dr Divx to create home theatre quality files in the best quality format it offers when the source file is stereo and avi.net where the source file has ac3
normally 704x528, unless widescreen

MP4 is just a container, what matters is the codecs you use for the video/audio it contains.

And it depends what sort of H.264 it supports; you'll have to find exactly what features it works with and doesn't.

But yes, H.264 is superior to anything else out there if you can get it working on that player.

it's a cheapie .. but on a local forum it gets a high score ..
as far as the Divx test CD goes it passed
MPEG4 ASP: DivX 4/5/6, XviD, 3ivX, Nero ASP Divx Standard Compatibility Test all Passed
except for those listed below which were a bitrate test and a Warp point test (never ripped anywhere near those bitrates that failed ever)

VID-3G 1Warp point was ok, 3 Warp points it started to miss frames
Vid-3H 750kpbs ok, 1500 kpbs ok, 3000kpbs ok, 4500 kpbs lost frames.

passed container tests except for
1I & 1J had no audio which was the Divx audio test

are there test files available to test MP4 specifically ?

Well the question is whether it supports MPEG-4 ASP (like Xvid or Divx) or AVC (x264, etc).

"MPEG-4" can mean one heck of a lot of things.
