View Full Version : xvid ripping under VISTA ultimate

i just installed vista ultimate retail edition.

prior to this i had vista RC2 where i ripped my dvd9s into xVids without any problems.

i attempted 3 rips, 2 of same movie, one different this evening. all had the same problems.

video-only .avi file comes out choppy, bottom row of 50 or so pixels are blurry...i have NO idea why.

i have tried different versions of MeGui...and still the same.

HERE IS AN EXAMPLE:
OUTPUT .avi from megui: http://maxupload.com/CC13C9E3

AC3 5CH untouched: http://maxupload.com/50A4E89B

AFTER MUXING: (blocky): http://maxupload.com/B9521255

PLEASE PLEASE someone help me...thanks.

I also posted a help thread in the VDM section, but I have concluded that it is NOT a VDM issue...instead of ripping is my next guess...

It's probably not an Xvid issue, which you could either confirm or exclude by doing a test with DivX instead of cross-posting. In fact, after text-muxing your files, it appears to be a problem introduced by your .AC3 audio. Since you're muxing a "raw, untouched" AC3 and your video is fine before that point, it's pretty obvious that your issue is with decrypting.

No, the video-only file is bad. Open it in virtualdub and you'll see what I mean.
This is caused by a bug in vista (More info here: http://www.virtualdub.org/blog/pivot/entry.php?id=145#body). MeGUI uses xvid_encraw to encode to xvid, which in turn uses the AVIFile API to output avi files. The AVIFile API writes bad AVI files in vista, so you end up with a broken file.
I asked the MeGUI people to update their version of xvid_encraw back in February (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=959141#post959141) so this problem could be avoided.

No, the video-only file is bad.
I hadn't tried that since the video alone seemed to play perfectly. The audio chirps and skips on my end.

Just replace the build of xvid_encraw.exe that MeGUI uses with one from my website and re-encode.

^ USE the above fix. it works. your .avi file is corrupt anyway...check it back in VDM...you'll see. :)
