entrapment or annoyance

i haven't been inside the forum for about 6 months, but today a just recieve this email (non-private message) from a newbie in waiting:

I recently joined Doom9 and since a "newbie" has to have three days
before
they can "post", I thought I'd ask you a question about ISO files.

I use Ripit4me, DVDdecryptor and DVDshrink to copy DVD's. All of these
work
GREAT!

My question concerns my ISO files. I keep my ISO files as backups, in
case
my DVD's go bad or are loaned out. I use to be able to click on the ISO
files and watch the movie on my pc using Power DVD, v5.

Recently, I had a MAJOR melt down and had to restore my system, WinXP,
Multimedia version with the on board restore files. Now, I can't watch
ISO
files using Power DVD. I wrote to Cyber Link, Power DVD, concerning
this
issue and they say Power DVD has never been able to play ISO files. I
know
for a fact that Power DVD is the only software I used. Was it possible
that
I had loaded a codec that allowed Power DVD to be able to play ISO
files?

In the course of learning how to copy DVD's, I might have copied a file
that
allowed Power DVD to render ISO's but what?

Ignore it is my advice - let him wait his 5 days like the rest of us and he can then post his problem on the forum where it belongs.

It's not a big deal once in a while when someone PMs you with a question as a specific followup to something you both discussed directly in a thread, depending on the question of course.

But to answer your question:

When I get anything in my PM box, from someone I don't "know" asking me questions out of the blue, in any forum, I get "annoyed".

When I get this in my personal email box, this is more like "entrapment". But I would agree with the advice here to just ignore it. Unless he's specifically reading this thread, he won't know that he struck home. And if he is reading this thread hopefully he gets a clue...

As well, being a moderator at divx.com, I know that n00bs don't have access to personal details, such as email. He for sure did some sort of "hit and miss".

I do really like the 5 day rule here. In other forums, such as divx.com, you get some ridiculous questions from impatient n00bs who just wouldn't take the time to just try to figure out something so simple on their own. I just wonder what drastic measures they'd take if they had to wait though...

Thanks to those who read my post, My five days are past and NO I am not trying to entrap anyone. BluTack, I have written you in the past and I am so sorry to have invoked any worrys here.
I managed to find VLC media player to mount my ISO files. I still haven't found the reason that PowerDVD could play the same ISO files before my system melt down, but can't now.

Nothing to be sorry for regarding the "entrap" issue. That is a rather silly worry. Just imagine how that would go down in court. "Your honor, Mr BozieB, responded to an undercover officer's solicitations to get him to to reveal how to play an ISO file.[everyone in the courtroom gaps, or not]." (BTW, entrapment, asking someone to do something illegal to create a crime, is against the law,not that there's any crime in trying to play a video.)

But, you did cross the line on the annoyance issue. The five-day wait was imposed to cut down in the numerous people asking for help with issues they didn't lift a finger to try to find a solution to before asking. Imagine if everyone just started messaging users to get around the waiting period. Only message someone if you have something that applies exclusively to that person.

Thanks, I'd hate to squelch any means for help from the forum, but as I understood the 5 day rule, it was no posting, not pm'ing a personal email. and so, I have made a classic mis-understanding.
