I have an idea for a software project, and I'm wondering where the best place to suggest it would be. I'd love to see it become an open-source development. Basically, my idea is this:
A virtual photo and video gallery for displaying family or other photos and videos in an easy to navigate space. I'd love to see the videos and photos displayed in columns and rows on a wall that is automatically sized to accomodate as many photos and videos as are input, sortable by various criteria such as date recorded, with all video clips playing at once and looping, and the volume of each video dependent on the proximity of the observer. I'd like to see videos switch to full-screen display when clicked. I figure multiple videos may appear to play in real-time if the videos displayed onscreen are actually parts of larger wall "tiles" that are actually individual rendered videos each containing many small video windows. As an observer gets closer to a video, it may be replaced by the actual video file in progress starting at the same point at which the wall tile version left off, so that it doesn't appear too pixelated when zoomed in.
It would be great if the gallery could display stereoscopic photos and videos in selectable viewing formats also, and even better if the gallery itself could be viewed in stereoscopic format. I'd like it to be able to display avisynth scripted video so that the original video files can be kept intact but edited on the fly to be trimmed, etc. as one would like.
An additional feature that would be great is to be able to burn selected video clips sequentially to DVD.
This is an idea for something I would like to use myself for displaying family photos and video, and I think many thousands of other people would love. I thought of calling it "Memory Lane".
I've seen some 3-D virtual gallery software already but haven't found any that will display a large enough number of photos, or in both columns and rows to display more onscreen at once, or display multiple motion video windows let alone the other features described.
