Hello,

I am digitizing Hi8 videos and I get awfully lot of noise (especially random horizontal banding in luminance component, but also quite some chroma noise). When I capture live video from the camcorder, there's virtually no noise in the picture. This rules out bad capture card and bad cabling. Is it possible that dirty heads in the camcorder cause excessive noise? I tried recording new footage on new Hi8 tape and the noise is no better (so the archival tapes don't seem to be to blame).

Either the heads are dirty or something in the camcorder has failed.
