Nero 5.1 HE setting question...

I usually been setting this to automatic, but I notice I can set it to manual and set the kbit/s and the hz options. I figured the highest would give me the best quality 256kbit/s, 48000hz. But is this true?? I just want to get the best quality setting for 5.1. I was not sure if I encoded this at that high of a rate and the orignal was a lower rate it would distort the sound any. :thanks:

Transcoding will always give you lower quality, even if the rate is higher than the original. But the highest rate will give you the best quality normally. If you don't hear any problems then everything is ok.
If you're concerned with quality and bitrate doesn't matter too much you could use LC AAC and increase the rate even more.
