Styled subtitles

Hi, have various files that use styled .ssa subtitle (karaoke, you know what I mean :-) and I opened those files with mplayer on ubuntu 7.04.
But it displays the plain subs, without anything colourish or style. Doesnt mplayer support this? Heard VLC is no better... is there no video player for linux that is able to display those styled subtitles? I didnt try wine and mpc, hope it will work :-(

MPlayer should be able to display them properly, if compiled with ass support. Also, SMPlayer (a Qt frontend for MPlayer) has configuration options for it.
