View Full Version : VDub capture: audio synchronization

I am capturing in VDub 1.6.x and I have noticed that audio goes out of sync. It's not by much, but after an hour it amounts to about 2 seconds which certainly is not acceptable.

I have "sync audio to video by resampling" turned on in Timing dialog. Also during capture there are no dropped frames at all and my computer is powerful enough to process the data stream easily (CPU load during capture is less then 10%).

What else can I do to avoid audio track drifting out of sync? Is VirtualDub Sync still relevant solution today (it's 4 years old)?

If I cannot find a solution I will be forced to do captures by small pieces, but I'd rather avoid such labor intensive work-around.

Sometimes (if capturing a worn or damaged VHS, for exaple) the resampling process is not enough to keep sync, and virtualdub has to drop or repeat frames. If you have these options disabled in the timing settings (sound like you do if you are not getting any dropped frames) then it will lose sync.

I have not disabled neither frame dropping nor null frame inserting. And in fact I am getting inserted frames (on the order of tens for one hour capture).

My Timing dialog looks like this:

I have tried to disable that "Correct video timing for fewer frame drops/inserts" and it seems to have solved the problem. The A/V is in sync after more than hour's capture.

I have found that Virtualdub 1.7.6 with the correct Timing setting is excellent at keep video and audio sync
