I'm trying to get the Vista Media center to use the FFDshow video decoder clsid.
I've managed to get the vista mce to use the FFDshow audio decoder.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Decoder
PreferredMPEG2AudioDecoderCLSID
{007FC171-01AA-4B3A-B2DB-062DEE815A1E}

This is using the Beta 3 version of FFDshow.

These are the Clsid I've tried for the videodecoderCLSID.
{007FC171-01AA-4B3A-B2DB-062DEE815A1E} Audio

{04FE9017-F873-410E-871E-AB91661A4EF7} Video

{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}

None of them work.

Please help me out here.
I've set the FFDshow video decoder to Mpeg2, libmpeg2, dvd decoding checked.
Where, or what is the FFDshow video decoder clsid ?

Well, I don't use Media Center but the correct CLSID for ffdshow video decoder is:

{04FE9017-F873-410E-871E-AB91661A4EF7}

A CLSID should consist of only an opening brace, the numbers and dashes, and the closing brace. Have you tried that, without the word "Video" appended as you've shown above? Don't even leave any leading or trailing blanks. Paste those exact 38 characters - a proper CLSID should always be 38 characters long, exactly.

Thanks Stegre,

I found that DScaler 5008 video decoder clsid using mpc.
And the FFDShow video decoder clsid the same way.
Here's the dscaler clsid.
{F8904F1F-0371-4471-8866-90E6281ABDB6}

If I change the audio or video codec defaults to dscaler or ffdshow, WMP11 dvd playback stops working.
I couldn't get Vista MCE to use the FFDshow video codec, but it will use the FFDshow audio codec and the dscaler video codec.

Wonder why.

Wonder why.
Have you tried disabling the black- and whitelists under "DirectShow control"?

Maybe ffdshow refuses to let itself get used due to those settings - no amount of forcing is going to work then.

Then again, maybe WMP simply refuses to use any random filter for video decoding because of playback prevention, errr, copy protection and all that jazz...

Maybe this helps:

But I am not sure if ffdshow is a compatible decoder.

I've tried the directshow control setting. And I've tried that utility. Still no go. I don't think it's because of drm, since the dscaler video decoder works.

Am I the only one who thought you were looking for Doom9 user clsid? :D
