This is only vaguely a DVD-related problem, but it only happens when I'm running TmpGenc, so I'll see if you guys have heard of anything like this.

Anyway, every time I try to burn a DVD with TmpGenc DVD Author 3, my computer gets about 15 minutes into building track 1, then without any warning, goes totally black and dies. When I reboot, there are no clues that I can find as to what happened. I'm running XP pro, by the way.

TmpGenc doesn't even get as far as the actual burn process; it's just building the track in memory, and says "building track 1" in the status bar.

I was having a similar problem about 6 months ago where the computer would die in the same way during a burn process. A friend said he thought it sounded like it could be a power supply problem, so I installed a new, hardier one, and the problem went away, or so it seemed.

Anyway, I know this is a very general type question, but I thought it was worth asking if anyone had seen this kind of behavior with TmpGenc, or if you had any other ideas. What would you do if it was your computer?

thanks

It could again be a problem with the power supply (Just because it's newer and better doesn't mean it can't be bad), and it could also be issues with temperature. High temps don't usually shut the PC down without an audible alarm. Install a monitor program so you can see the core temp during the process.

You might also want to correct your thread title to something more descriptive of its contents, as stated in the forum rules (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm).
