View Full Version : can't extract audio from avi with vbr

all the avi's i've been getting lately have VBR and i always
get an error when trying to open in virtual dub. After closing
the error i tried to cut one in half, but the audio would come
out all messed up.

I then opened them in nandub with no errors, and cut them ok.
But when i tried to just convert them to mpg in TMPGEnc...
there was no sound at all.

I know if i can extract the audio
from the avi's, i can use them as the audio source when using
TMPGEnc. So, i try going back nandub, and when i 'save wav',
the wav file comes out being 6 seconds longer than the video.
Same thing when i tried using virtualdub and avi2wav. This happens
on every avi i have gotten recently.

Thanks in advance for any help :)

----------------------------------------

I just tried to convert avi in LSX-MPEG Encoder and got this error...
"Audio stream has unsupported format or compression type."

when i play the avi in ms media player, it plays, looks
and sounds fine to me. this is happening with all the avi files
i have just gotten recently

do i need some special codec or am i doing something wrong?

thanks again

Well..All I can tell you that I have been in need of doing something like this only once and I have used Nandub for it.
Did Save Wav and waited till it finished. When I chcecked the running time in winamp it was longer for about 4-5 minutes than original. But when I played the track itself it appeared that everything is ok. It was just showing wrong time. I've heard that peaople sometimes do this Save Wav couple of times, since everytime they used to get different results.
So - check your track once again - play it to the end (of course you can skip some parts - just play it a couple minutes before end till the end) or try to extract it once again.
Hope that helps
take care

BTW - try the new VirtualDub 1.4.8 - it has some minor improvements in the terms of mp3...
