I currently have a Phillips 8820 drive that I use to backup my DVD's. It has started creating DL DVDs with playback errors in my standalone player and some that can not be played back in the Phillips drive. This is with using only Verbatim media and burning at 1X speed.

I have been looking into finding an internal dvd burner to replace the Phillips drive. I haven't been able to find much information on decent internal slim dvd burners. I would like to find an internal burner but I have been wondering if I would get a better to get a external burner. I was wondering where I could find reviews for slim dvd burners, or recemendations for a drive or if I should get a external burner.

Hi!

What burning program are you using?

I'd suggest you use IMGBurn for burning DL media - and use ONLY DL DVD+R

because of design and power issues all slimlines are inferior, nature of the beast

unfortunately usb2 burners are not without their own problems, I prefer firewire ones.

Through my process of elmination and this boards help, I now only use Imgburn to burn any of my dvds.

My new laptop it the frist computer that I have had with a firewire port so have to ask, what are the benifits of using Firewire over USB 2.0?

depending upon the enclosure(chipset) and the laptop's chipset(firewire/usb), firewire is a little faster and usually more troublefree

a lot of people overload the usb bus, firewire is frequently
unused

getting an enclosure with both allows maximum flexibility
