Hey there,

I was wondering if anyone knows where i can find a firmware update for my old samsung 511 dvd player. I know its about 7 years old now and for some reason its started having trouble with certain types of disks.

I read that samsung took this off the market because it was easily hackable and you can unlock the macrovision. I think thats why i can't find an update anywhere on the internet. Not even on the samsung site.

If anyone knows where i can find it please let me know

Ok, ive rambled on enough.....

Hi!I know its about 7 years old now and for some reason its started having trouble with certain types of disks.1) Considering its age, you might want to run a DVD/CD cleaning disc on it. Maxell makes one that sells for approximately $10US

2) Also considering its age, you might consider buying a new, much less costly with many more features, standalone player

Hiya

Ive run a dvd clean disk and nothing changed. I was told that because of its age it has trouble reading certain disks due to the dye used. TDK and Verbatim disks don't work on it but some cheap ass disks, 25 for £5 work perfectly.

I was told if i update the firmware that would fix my problem but i just can't find the update anywhere...thanks for you reply though, much appreciated

for some reason its started having trouble with certain types of disks.TDK and Verbatim disks don't work on itPlease clarify - Did your player previously work with TDK and Verbatim media and they've RECENTLY become problematic or, have you not previously had any experience with these brands on this player?

If you're not going to purchase a new player, you might want to try burning DVD+R media and using bitsetting...

Sorry, i wasn't too clear with my last post.

I recently tried new disks (TDK and Verbatim ) and neither worked. I always used memorex (burn upto x8) and they worked perfectly but when the new Memorex disks (burn upto x16) came out they wouldn't play on my dvd player.

Ive always burnt at x4 speed.

I used ValuePack by traxdata dvd disks now and they work fine but they are getting harder to find.

What is the bitsetting that you mentioned??

What is the bitsetting that you mentioned??"Bitsetting", if your burner has the capability (many, but not all, have this capability) is a technique that theoretically makes burned DVD+R media (NOT DVD-R) appear to be pressed DVD-ROMs to all players.

Pressed (as are commercial DVDs) DVDs should be playable by all players...
