I'm baffled. 2 days ago I posted a thread about wanting to change the size of the frames to 720x480:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=127359
I got an explanation and decided to settle for the outputs I got.

Today I took the very same DVD which is not encrypted and tried to create a smaller file-size output It was 1.5 gig and I wanted 700 meg because quality was not an issue. But it refused to work. This is the logfile:

[6/29/2007 4:05:15 AM] Target bitrate is: 958kbps
[6/29/2007 4:05:15 AM] Running compressibility test.

It then stopped and displayed this alert:
Video compression error: The source image format is not acceptable. (error code -2)

I tried resetting the output to 1.5 meg and got the same alert. It worked 2 days ago. I don't understand...

help please

Same problem!
Is it due to the new divx 6.6?

your log shows 1500mb and you said you were going for 700?
not that it matters, but felt like pointing it out :p

btw. if you're going for a 700mb file, and you use AC3 as audio, you
only have 225mb for video and 475mb for audio in your case. kinda silly if you ask me..

as for your error. never seen that, sorry.

edit:
@maxambro.. encode using xvid. no matter what the result's gonna be, you'll have your answer ;)

Someone convinced me to add some software to my computer for subbing movies. I thought maybe that was the problem so I uninstalled everything that had to do with codecs, etc, rebooted then reinstalled the ones I need:
CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack)
DVD Decrypter
AutoGordianKnot which installed:
Vobsub
aviSynth
Xvid

I then tried again with the same result. Immediately after lame runs the error occurs and agk aborts. I'm trying your suggestion now of switching to Xvid.

As for the 700 meg file I wasn't aware that AC3 would eat so much space. I'm trying to create a small file which others will download to use for timing of subs. Video quality need not be very high. A smaller file will download from megaupload faster than the 1.5 gig file I had before.

As for the target size, I tried both 700 and 1500 with the same result. I guess I posted the one from my 1500 meg try. The log was the same except for that detail.

Edit:

Still crashed after I ran with the change to Xvid codec:

audio size depends on how long the material is aswell as the codec used.
agk shows you how big the audio size is like in your log:
[6/29/2007 11:16:24 AM] Audio1 size: 498,765,568 bytes (475.66 Mb)

id use mp3 @128-192 kbps. it depends on your taste whats good enough.
all i can advise you is not to use a codec pack as they tend to
mess up your system real good.

The CCCP codec pack was in there when agk worked 2 days ago...

Also I'm not the only one. Maxambro is also seeing this.

Edit:

I tried preview and that works.
