wot software could i use to convert hd .mkv h.264.so i can play it on the mac.and i would like to keep all the hd-ness

I think you should be able to play h264 .mkv without reencoding...

i think i read somewhere where people were havn trouble playn them.i havnt got a mac yet,but will be getn one and i have some .mkv h.264 files,so hopefully i wont have to convert.

...I guess should not be a problem (at least) using VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/).

Hi,

To read mkv files, you can install Perian codec
http://perian.org

With this codec, QuickTime and many other applications can read the file.
Now to convert to H264, you can use QuickTime Pro or SimpleMovieX, or other converters for the mac.

Install Perian 1.0, then open the MKV movie with Quicktime (select "Open With", then "All Applications", and then Quicktime Player). Let the entire MKV movie load (watch the status bar at the bottom of QT Player) and then Save As a reference movie. That'll give you an instant-opening .mov that'll play the full MKV file. DON'T delete the original MKV file! You still need it.
