Not sure if this is the right section... Sorry if it is not.

I have multiple DVD VOB files that are interlaced and require to be IVTC'ed when converted to XViD, WMV, or any other format.

I have found that TMPGEnc Xpress 4.0 does a great job with setting the filter setting in the deinterlace section to:
- Deinterlace Mode: 24fps (Special animation)
- Deinterlace Method: Inverse Pulldown
THe resulting videos are almost perfect and for lots of places in my videos it's perfectly smooth. But, in certain areas like in spots where the picture fades out and back in rather quickly it's jerky and not smooth, or when other certain fast and close-up movement occurs the video skips a frame or is jerky, but in any event is not smooth. I'm sure it's not the settings of my output I've tried multiple videos, all from same source, to WMV, XVID, MPEG, etc. in 1-pass, 2-pass, CBR, VBR, you name it.

My question is this, is there any program (commercial or freeware) that has a better IVTC'ing engine or a way to keep using TMPGEnc Xpress 4.0 but altering the settings to fix this issue?

The best IVTCing program is probably YATTA; nothing comes close, really.

On the other hand, its anything but easy to use due to its power.

The TIVTC plugin for AviSynth works great IMHO.

As for your fades - those are probably per field (or per frame), while the video itself is telecined, that is without the fade the video would only change every 2 or 3 fields, but due to the fade it changes with every field (or every other field, if it is per frame) and thus throws off the IVTC.
