How do you define "better"? What are you looking for that megui's default profiles don't cover? Be precise in what you ask for, or no one can help you.

also... say what's your starting profile and what profile are you aiming.. then post only the difference.. it's surely better readable! :)

ok I packed the xml file. What I aim for is a better overall quality, better image, not mattering the encoding time.I started tweaking values in HQ-Insane profile like raising M.E. Range, changing Deblocking strenght & threshold, number of reference frames, number of B-frames & changing bitrate variance to use higher bitrates...I want to know if the settings are good & how can I improve.
I am using these settings on NTSC content
I'm begginer dats why I need lots of help & I'm know I'm oftenly confusing things :) .

HQ-Insane has the highest quality settings already, you don't need to tweak it more :)

Unless you know you're being rate-limited in important areas, don't touch things like bitrate variance. Use const. quality if you can, in fact, where variance isn't even applicable.

Look up deadzone and AQ, which are the two things that will most visibly impact quality after HQ-Insane. None of the other settings you change are likely to make a quality difference, just slowing it down, except maybe lots of b-frames.

@ check: HQ-Insane isn't the best experiment that by tryin some changing settings there
@ foxy:
I use 6 B-frames should I try adding even more?
WHen u are saying about deadzone u reffer at inter & intra luma quantization deadzone?
If yes I cant tweak those settings because they are already in grey font and are setted to 21 & 11 :( .And I dont know what AQ stands for..
thnx a lot for your answer..and another thing should I play with the minimum & maximum quantizer too?

You have to turn trellis off to use them; those ones don't have a hover help yet, unfortunately. You lower them to keep more detail. You'll really want constant quality, because the final size will grow pretty significantly to keep the same overall quality (but with much better retention of fine detail).

If filesize is a concern, keep trellis on and forget deadzone.

More than 3 b-frames usually only help animated, and generally those won't use more than 4-5 anyway.
