CD/DVD reader won't read cd's anymore

I'm not sure if anyone can help me with this problem, but here goes. I have two combo cd & dvd players. They both read dvd's fine but won't read (play) my audio cd's anymore. They used to work fine and I'm not sure when it quit working on my audio cd's. As I've mentioned the dvd part works fine on both drives. I've used them with RipIt4Me and DVDFab decrypter with no problems.:confused:

They may both have dual lasers (one for reading CDs, the other for reading DVDs).

Try running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on them. Maxell makes one that sells for approximately $10US.

BTW, since this problem started, have you tried playing those same CDs on yet a different (perhaps a standalone) player - to make sure the CDs are playable at all?

It does work in a standalone player just fine. I'll purchase a cleaning disc and try that. I'll report back after. Thanks.

Have you (or a program you installed) disabled the auto run function?

This means an Audio CD (or other kinds) won't play automatically anymore. Though you can still play them, you just have to manually open them with a media player (like Foobar).

Saying this because it would be very unlikely that both of your drives stopped reading at the same time ;)

Alternately, if you haven't disabled autorun, it's possible that you inserted a CD that had something like XCD or one of the other stealth DRM packages so many seem to use these days. =\

@prOnorama: I did disable autorun, however the drive is not recognized when I try to look at it with Explorer or open it with any Media Players.

@foxyshadis: It's possible some stealth DRM application has infected it but unlikely as I haven't bought any new CD's lately. I guess I'll try the cleaner, but I have my doubts about that; it reads/writes DVD's fine.
