Problems with IVTC

Hi,

Up untill now all the dvds I handled were quite easy, a tfm / tdecimate line, and all was well, sure, sometimes it needed the hybrid flag on the tdecimate, and sometimes I needed to mess more with the TFM parameters, but they were mostly easy going a-ok sources.

Now I'm having some hard time with Trigun, 2nd episode, from the limited edition dvd... 1st episode was FINE, 3rd is ok too as I remember, but the 2nd is just... Well, take a look:

I am guessing there's SOME sort of blending there? I am really not sure - having handled only easy stuff, I don't really even know WHAT I'm facing there...

My current TFM/TDecimate lines are:

TFM(order=1,Mode=4, pp=5, field=1, slow=2, scthresh=8, micmatching=2, cthresh=3, mi=43)
TDecimate(mode=1, hybrid=1, denoise=true)

The cthresh is down to 3 and mi to 43 due to super annoying mouth-combs which were not otherwise detected... I'm encoding it right now - to see what sort of new problems that lowered stats might have created.

You can try mrestore or fixblendivtc.

Not really, no filter exists for any software that can actually correct that problem (colloquially known as "funky blending"), not to mention the ugly mess every I-frame, only getting ahold of the R1 or R2-J. I wonder why different episodes from the same disc were processed differently. You might use smoothdeinterlace or yadif on it, and give up trying to decimate cleanly.

To figure out what's wrong with anything, always start with separatefields(). If it's full-frame blending that isn't temporally smeared, that can be corrected, but not otherwise.

A friend of mine whom I always consult about these things has told me that I'm in for some serious freeze-framing in that episode... But I wanted to verify, I sort of hoped there would be a "quick fix" by some filter... Ah well,
