Hello,

I got HDTV MKV file which I'm trying to convert to DivX and retain 5.1 audio. I tried Super, AllToAvi, AutoMKV but all offer to convert only to Lame MP3 and not retain original DTS or any any other 5.1 sound. WHy is that?

Hi!

Why did you first convert your BluRay disc to an MKV container if you need a DivX-compressed .AVI?

What tools and procedures did you use to convert the BluRay disc?

Could the same tools be used to convert the BluRay disc to DivX-compressed .AVI?

As he said in his post, he wasn't the one who encoded it. So how did he get it? Violation of Rule 6?

Hi!As he said in his post, he wasn't the one who encoded it.The post doesn't actually say that...

Although your speculation may be correct, did you consider the possibility that "artisticcheese" and "Crowley" may be one and the same person?

Crowley wouldn't be asking these questions :) He's a 'scene' encoder.

I'm not disagreeing with anyone. It's just not fair for us as members to presume something that's not been clearly stated (Moderators are a different story, of course).

Perhaps "artisticcheese" will post back here to clarify things...

If you have a decent x264 copy, then why convert to XviD/DivX? x264 is a higher quality encoder better suited for HD movies than XviD. Just use a player such as VLC media player to playback the video. Also, if you have a 1080p copy, then wouldn't the aim be to retain that high quality (why have an HD copy when you just want a normal XviD version of it?).

What container format do you wish to use? - If you want an AVI file, then keeping the DTS audio track might result in it not working properly (I have never tried it though) and, even though it might play, then it almost certainly would not be playable on, for example, an external DivX player.

If you do want to play it on an external DivX player then you woud probably want XviD video with AC3 audio in an *.avi container format. You could use VirtualDubMod to demux the DTS audio which could then be transcoded to AC3. Then, to convert the video to XviD, use VirtualDubMod again (saving it as an AVI file), and change the audio tracks to the AC3 file (removing the DTS and FLAC audio tracks). You should then get an XviD output with with Dolby Digital multichannel audio.

I dont know who is this "Crowley" guy..
There are a lot of Crowleys ....

Extract the DTS 5.1 1.5Mbps from mkv with mkvextract ,so you have your DTS Audio.
To encode the x264 1080p Video create a Graph in Graphedit like this :
HaaliMediasplitter(select1080p mkv)-ffdshow

Load it into your script with
Directshowsource ("c:\xxxx video.grf",audio=false)
...and encode it to what ever.
To Divx for example in VdubMod

To use 5.1 Audio in avi ,encode the DTS to AC3
-Tranzcode 0.4 , dts to 5.1 wave
-aften , wave to ac3 640kbps 5.1

At least mux your divx/xvid with ac3 in Vdubmod
PS , when you want to obscure your illegal Stuff ( i bet its from Usenet)with "some Movie", maybe write "some encoder" too. Just a suggestion :)
Release Infos etc plays 100% no Role here, so better remove it.
Its by far enough when you say you want to encode a 1080p x264/DTS 5.1 to x

I did not encode original file, I'm just trying to convert this MKV file to something which my DSM-520 will be able to play (http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=438).
I tried to use AutoMKV but I don't see option there to preserve original AC3 or DTS encoded sound, only to convert to something which does not support 5.1 audio.
What are my options without going some creepy command line excersises?

Thread closed for rule 6 violation.

artisticcheese, you're getting off lightly here. Don't do it again.
