avi.net, automkv, autogk and xvid

Will avi.net and automkv work with XviD 1.2? When you install autogk it installs a non released version of XviD (version 1.2). And since you can only have one copy of the xvid codec on your computer I wanted to know if avi.net and automkv would work with it.

i will speak only for AutoMKV

AutoMKV will use the xvidcore.dll present in \exe\encoder, actually is bundled 1.2.xx version (march build)
This dll don't cause problem since isn't registred and ins't in system32 folder

If automkv not found the xvidcore.dll in \exe\encoder will use the one installed in system32

When you install autogk it installs a non released version of XviD (version 1.2)...from AutoGK faq (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=72679): If you're using MTK/Sigma compatibility option then you HAVE to use XviD build supplied with AutoGK, otherwise you may use potentially any build of XviD 1.x.

unfortunately that is not true.

I encoded the same movie using 1.1.2 and 1.2 using single pass with a quantizer of 3 (67%) and the movie lengths were as follows:

1.1.2 793K
1.2 718K

A big difference, something is not quite right.

...of course: different versions, different results. what I've meant is: if u don't need MediaTek chipset compatibility/enhancement (I always use ESS "profile" for maximum SAP safety) you can use any 1.* XviD build with AutoGK.

...anyway, if u really want to use different applications with different XviD builds/versions, u can try software virtualization (like SVS (http://www.svsdownloads.com/)) installing each application in a different (virtual) layer.

All of the recent xvid builds on celtic druid's mirror (http://ffdshow.faireal.net/mirror/XviD/) include the MTK profiles. They're much more up-to-date than the one autogk supplies, as well, some issues fixed since early last year.

Just to verify I recorded a second movie using AutoGK with the exact same setting using the xvid versions 1.2 and 1.1.3. Here are the results:

Xvid 1.2 -> 1.41G
Xvid 1.1.3 -> 1.84G

Huge difference.

I used 1.1.3 with avi.net and it came out 1.34G, so it is closer to what I expected.
