I'm trying to re encode a file encoded off of digital tv. You see the file is encoded in avc1 at 1920x1080 in mkv at about 350 mb an episode. I think it was encoded in Nero then put into an mkv with a custom subtitle file. All my player mpc, mplayer, videolan chug along trying to play it with massive frame drops and jerkiness. Is there a way to losslessly transcode the file even if it means a bigger file size. Maybe encode it into Windows Media 9 at 120 fps with dupe frames in avi at a larger file size? I just want to watch it at 1920 x 1080 without it chugging along.
Any Suggestions?

* 1080p avc takes alot of cpu to decode
* adding frames will make things worse
* transcoding to another lossy codec is always....lossy
* only resizing the video down will help you, as other codecs aren't many times lighter/faster than avc
* you can't "losslessly transcode" a file if you have to resize the video
* it would seem you're in violation of rule 6, expect the thread to be closed

Finally got it working in SMPlayer. No more slow playback or frame drops. Thanks everyone who contributed.
