re-encoding webcam capture

Hi,
I've used riverpast's camdo to record a short clip, live from my webcam. Its 5.08 minutes at 640x480 at 30fps and saved in xvid.

Trouble is it weighs in at a huge 1.00 GB of space!!

Now I figure there must be some way to re-encode to a smaller sized xvid file without loss of quality.
Question- what software do I use?
I have access to CCE, 2.70. Is this useful?
Also I can borrow canopus procoder 2.04 and one or two other programs.

Any help, suggestions would be great.

Well, you seem to be a bit misguided. Procoder / CCE are both MPEG-2 encoders. That's useful if you want to make DVDs, but it sounds like you just want to reduce the size of your files.

First of all, you can never reduce filesize without losing SOME quality. Re-encoding is lossy.

However, you can probably do a decent job. It's likely that your video (being webcam footage) is very noisy and unstable. AviSynth filters will probably help reduce noise / grain a lot, and even things out without losing too much detail. It's not like webcams are terribly detailed / sharp to begin with..

Load your AVI into an AviSynth script with AVISource("C:\movie.avi") and then try something standard like fft3dfilter(sigma=2) or something like that..

Maybe give us a small sample, trimmed with VirtualDub's direct stream copy (no audio please).
