Copying previously ripped dvds

I am trying to copy some previously ripped dvds to my hard disk. These disks play ok in a regular DVD player but DVD Shrink can't read them even though it created them, I have tried 3 different DVD drives in various PCs, and a number of different ripping apps. With DVD Shrink I always get a cyclic redundancy check error, other applications simpley hang. The disks are clean, differing brands, some are +r some are -r.

I would appreciate any hints on resolving this. Apologies if this question appears elswehere.

This doesn't entirely make sense - are you trying to make copies of copies? If they are commercial disks, you'd be better off returning to the source material and using DVD Decrypter or RipIt4Me, if necessary.

The disks are cleanI'd suggest that your original burns were either burned at too high a speed, on poor quality media, on a faulty burner, or some combination of the three - or were improperly stored (heat and/or moisture can kill a burned DVD in short order) - or have adhesive labels (that can warp DVDs as the glue shrinks), which should be carefully removed and/or scored...

I no longer have the original disks and I'm trying to build up a collection of online dvds within Media Center.

and for the second; this makes a lot of sense, but I am still confused as to why they play in regular DVD players.
