Windows Server 2003 is just an updated Windows XP core (essentially anyway). I believe with minute licence changes, which can be done by a programme I can't name here, you can get normal XP to say its server! You can definately get server 2003 and programmes believing its XP, on the boot screen and in Windows, as everything is built in to the system!

Windows XP should have been updated to 5.2, but Microsoft decided not to do it. With Vista, they will update the core to the server core because it saves supporting so many extra operating systems. Note that server 2003 tricked into thinking its XP isn't true Xp, as you still haven't got some XP features.

Likewise, you can make XP x64 think its server 2003 Enterprise edition, with the boot screen dialogue boxes etc etc, but because its missing a component IE & msn etc won't work (firefox does though!). If its a completely a computational computer it may have benefits! (and you do have the capabilities of the extra cores, unlimited users connected, unlimited ram (essentially) etc etc.

OH AND BTW:!
You can change your standard server 2003 to server 2003 enterprise! :D and have all its features. Just requires a reboot after setting (the settings are ridiculously small, just a registy key etc).

Actually, you can have a programme that allows all the server enterprise features on Xp and on Vista premium without system modification, however these are illegal and nobody has really tried to programme them, except for one programme that removed the tcp half open connections without modification to the tcpip.sys file.

My point is, there should be no reason why programmes aren't interchangeable between the two :) some programmes may say you need a different version under server for example, but thats a built in limitation for licensing purposes.

All WMA codec capabilities (updates, etc.) are delivered via WMP installations. If you want 9.2, upgrade to WMP11.

WMP11 ins't installable in 2k3 on ordinary way... you must do install it in compatibility mode

or if you don't want wmp11... just install the WMFdist11
