View Full Version : Is There a Preferred Encoder For Scratched Originals?

RB Pro, WinXP

I tried backing up the movie Nashville. The disk is old and pretty scratched up. RipIt4Me/DVDD choked on it. I hit retry about 25 times and the rip inched forward but I eventually gave up on that. I reripped it two more times and the third time it completed the rip.

I expect this project may run into some "trouble" or "difficult" areas for the encoder. Is there any particular encoder amongst the free ones that tends to do better with "rough" or less than optimal data from the rip?

Hi!

If you do run into difficulty with your present rip, you might consider taking your original DVD to your neighborhood video rental shop - and ask them to polish it for you...

Hmm. I didn't I could do that. I didn't even know video rental shops had such a device. Any idea what one of them would cost?

You could also consider ISOPuzzle.

I'll try ISOPuzzle. Thanks for the tip. That reminded me. I have ISOBuster. I will look into trying that too.
