Bad Quality when encoding the Sex and the City Season to Xvid

I've got a problem. I've bought the first Season of Sex and the City (PAL) and i would like to encode the episodes to Xvid. But it fails every time. May be somebody knows how bad the quality on the DVD is. Also the DVDs are interlaced.
Which deinterlacer should I use in Gknot?
Should I use Smoh filter or anything?
What can I do to improve the quality?
Every time I encode the episodes the quality is unsharp and everywhere in faces are pixel.

Hope somebody knows the answer to this problem...

What can I do to improve the quality?
Unless there's someone around that has worked with them, we'll need a sample. Open a VOB in DGIndex and use the [ and ] buttons to isolate a small section where there's movement. Then File->Save Project and Demux Video. Upload the resulting M2V somewhere. We only need 10 seconds or so.

What bitrate are you encoding to? Are you using a constant quality mode, a CBR mode, or an ABR mode (2 pass)? What other settings are you using for xvid?

as far as I remember "Sex and the City" has gotten fieldblended to PAL. Later Episodes were DEFT conversion with proper PAL-Speedup but Scene changes and some scenes remained blended and interlaced.

@burfadel: I use 2-pass VBR modus with the newest xvid 1.2 binary because this new release is dualcore optimized. BItrate is around 1000 kbit/s.

@scharfis_brain: So what does it mean? Can I use filters to improve this?

I don't want to rip the sex and the city season no more...
Now I've got the same problem with King of Queens... Picture is very bad after using Xvid in 2-pass mode... :(
