What is a good DVD-5 Branded (no Lightscribe or Inkjet label) media to use for burning movies?

If there is more than one acceptable brand, which is the least expensive good one?

Hi!

As I'm sure you already know, the answer depends on the burner and player(s) being used.

To determine the capabilities/limitations of your DVD burner, as well as media compatibility, go to:

www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdwriters

(If necessary, open the Device Manager in the Control Panel to determine the make and model number)

To determine the capabilities/limitations of your specific brand and model of standalone DVD player, as well as media compatibility, go to:

www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers

Hi,
Actually, I didn't know that. I thought it might be like DL media where there is only one recommended product regardless of any other factors. So I'll check out those links, thanks.

Stick with Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden - irrespective of price (unless you simply don't care about your backed up data).

I wouldn't discredit Imation or TDK either!

A spindle of 100 DVD's in these brands is around $40 Australian, and if you search you can probably get it cheaper!...

I would ,I had lots of trouble with those. The RW´s mostly.
Also big problems with datawrite.

Verbatim has been good for me. :)

I use sony because I have a sony DVD Writer

if I use, say immation and the disc doesn't write properly, and complain to immation, they can say its my sony writer, and if I complain to sony, they will say it is immation's fault.

with sony and sony, they can't possibly talk back;)

I wouldn't discredit Imation or TDK either!I would. A few cents per disk is just not relevant (at least to me) when you want a reliable backup.
moser baer is a REALLY good bet....No, they're not - but they ain't the worst either.

I use GQ (Great Quality) disks from Fry's Electronics, which are ID'd as SONY-D11-00 as long as they're branded with some info on the top. Those have been excellent with no failures even after two years of storage. The plain silver tops have been Ritek, and exhibit read problems sometimes only six months later. Those I have re-burned as I've come across them.

They're on sale about every other Monday for 20 cents a disk (US).

Stick with Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden - irrespective of price OK. I got TY. They only cost about .35 a piece when I got 200 of them from supermediastore, and they threw in a free disk binder that holds about 200 disks.

I am currently on my second batch of 100 TDK DVD's that are made by TY according to CDfreaks. I have not had one coaster with them and I only have 5 left. The moral of the story is that in some instanced the label can be misleading. It pays to do a little research before making a purchase. ;)
