How can I convert my mpeg dual layer dvd with 448 kbps ac3 sound to make it fit in a single layer dvd? I don't intend to use my single layer version on my dvd player, hence I want to use mkv.

1. Is 5000 kbps video good?(instead of ~7600)

2. Should I use XviD or H.264 or Theora?

3. Can I retain my menus?

4. Isn't 448 kbps toooooooooo high? will ~128 kbps(vorbis q4) do?

5. I want to retain my 3 different subtitles. is it possible?

6. In the recent listening tests, I noticed that Vorbis ROX:cool:. Should I use it or something else?(mkv = anything + anything)

7. I have 256 mb ram and 2.66 GHz P4 processor. hence I need a light weight encoder.

8. my C Drive is already almost full, with only ~1.4 gb free. I have another drive with 12 gb free. hence I want to put the ripped file there.

9. for the same reason, I need to pipe the data, not coppy it to a temp folder.

10. tell me some FREE SOFTWARES that can do this.

11. will DVD Shrink do???

PS: sorry for the bad headding. I wanted to reduce text so it can fit within the limit:o
