How to make Virtualdubmod run faster?

Hi i encode dvd movie to avi using Virtualdubmod. i use Xvid 1 CBR pass. my speed is 0.9-1.2 FPS? really slow. i get that speed no matter that source good or bad? If there any way to make that run faster? Thanks a lot for helping me.

That doesn't help anything if you don't give us some more info. What is the source? Is it Avisynth? What is the resolution of the input video? What filters do you use? What are your Xvid settings? What versions of all the involved programs/codecs do you use? and so on...

I guess the "P4" build should be suitable for your CPU. If not, try the "P3" build...

it's .avs files with 3 filters and decomb ivtc. and 640 x 480 is AR and 29 FPS. yes i m trying to do .avs to avi using Virtualdubmod with 1 CBR pass. Thanks a lot

What happens if you do a test encode without any filters? In case it's significant faster, you know that the filters eat a lot of CPU time. Maybe you could look for faster filters then...

I just thought you might want to download an up-to-date build of the Xvid codec, optimized for your type of CPU. For your CPU I guess you would need to download "xvidcore.P4.7z". You also need "xvidvfw.7z" for the VfW interface, as needed by Vdub(mod). Then put the xvidcore.dll and the xvidvfw.dll into your "WINDOWS\System32" directory. You need 7-Zip (http://sevenzip.sourceforge.net/) to unzip the 7z files, in case you don't have it yet. In case the "P4" build doesn't work on your Celeron, try the "P3" build instead.

If you want to use your computer while you are encoding, just set VirtualDub(mod)'s priority to "Below Normal" and it shouldn't effect other applications any more...

As long as you only run one CPU intensive application on your PC, the priority doesn't have any effect. As soons as you run several applications that eat a lot of CPU time, then the priority controls which application will be prefered and which won't. If you set VDubMod to "below normal", it won't hurt the performance of other applications. But of course your encoding speed will go down, in case the other applications you are running at the same time eat a lot of CPU time...

Hi, you know some programs/softwares don't have priority to set. but virtualdubmod has it. is there any software/program that can set priority for staxrip because staxrip don't have a option to select priority. and i want to make to below normal so i can use my computer while encoding. also i want to run other program like below normal as well. (when not encoding dvd movie) Thanks.....

All programs can have the priority set. Just give the 'three finger salute' (ctl+alt+del) and right click on any process on the process page and Bob's Your Uncle...You can set priority.

I'd always prefer Mark Russinovich's "Process Explorer" over the default Taskman ;)
