I purchased a Creative Audigy 4 soundcard sometime back. Its pretty impressive compared to my earlier onboard sound chip. Audigy 4 has hardware decoders for AC3 and DTS.
The sound output is very clear if I use SPDIF in AC3Filter but the volume is way to low. If i use 5.1 in AC3Filter, the volume can be very high.
Any idea as to why this is happening?
I have Logitech Z5300 speakers.
Thanks:)

AC3Filter includes dynamic compression, and I don't believe that the Audigies do at all. (X-Fi does, however.) Most movies are mastered to go from very soft to booming without any compression.
(Btw, great speakers. =D)

Simply adjust the DRC (dynamic range compression) slider in AC3Filter's configuration. This minimizes the volume difference between loud and quiet portions, and makes an overall "louder" impression, but it destroys the dynamics of the movie when taken to the extreme.
Alternatively, keep compression minimal (or off), and crank up your speakers to really enjoy the massive dynamic range of a proper movie sound track, but be prepared to be blown out of your seat in fear when a really loud part comes up!
