Dunno whether or not it has been noticed before here and there but I've just discovered that there are now an open source authoring tool dedicated to BR.

I just downloaded but there's a few files with no file extensions and quite a few with .m4 and no documentation

any ideas

Only sources are available. You have to compile it by yourself.

I haven't heard of this before nor tested it, but I'd advise that no one get to excited. While you always have to start somewhere, I've seen a lot of stuff start off on SourceForge and never really reach a useable state. Unless someone can test it and report that it actually (or mostly or partly) works, it's not anything real useful.
Lots of projects start off on SourceForge and never get out of their embryonic state and just get abandoned and die.
