Hi,

I've used AVI_IO twice so far to encode a file to the divx format and both times, the video bitrate that the file was encoded in turned out to be much lower than what I had set it to in the compression setting. It looks like no matter what I set that video bitrate to, AVI_IO will use the default 910 vbr instead or something even lower.

I tried VirtualDub using the same settings and everything came out fine. Anyone else experience this?

I'm using the latest trial version from the web site with Divx 3 low motion with a video bit rate of 1500 and audio of 44.1KHz PCM on a 1.2 GHz Athlon. The actual capture process goes great with minimal dropped frames but the resulting divx files is very pixelated as if too low a bit rate was used.

This can be verified by doing a Properties>Details and looking at the video format. Using VDub set to 1500 vbr, the listed bit rate of the resulting divx file is 68 KB/sec. However, the same setting under AVI_IO results in a divx files that has a listing of only 10 KB/sec.

Thanks.

Hey,

Just an update. I sent an email explaining this to the address listed on AVI_IO's web site. I received the following reply:

"This is a known issue and on the to do list. Thanks for letting me
know.

Markus"

Guess others must have had this problem as well. Thanks to Markus for the quick reply to my question. I look forward to an updated release.

:)
