View Full Version : What kind of features do you want for the next Yamb releases ?

Hey,
I can't create a poll in the main Yamb's thread. So, I open a new one here.
I plan to release an official build soon. No date in mind though but probably before July. In fact, that will depend on the results of this poll...;)
So what do you want to have ?
I've 2-3 ideas in mind but I prefer to have your opinions.
:thanks:

timecodes file support for creating a nice vfr MP4! That's one of the important things which is missing in the MP4 scene :)

I would like to see support for "fake" DAR (we discussed it).
I also prefer separate global tab options for demux, remux and mux just like in Elecard's Xmuxer Pro.
Ability to cut MP4 stream to several parts and merge those same parts only by one click.
Batch mode would be appreciated as well, although I chose "Other things, please describe."
As "Matroska files support", I think this question is not well defined, cause MKV can swallow more formats than mp4box can handle.

not ok...or stay with the 1.6 release (which is/will be not updated anymore).

well...tell me how you can choose different parts in one click.

to be able to mux a mkv to mp4 file automatically. The streams not supported by MP4Box will be discard of course.
timecodes file support for creating a nice vfr MP4!
Indeed...that could be great.

well...tell me how you can choose different parts in one click.
I've meant when you determinate cutting time position for several parts, I would like to see checking box options for merging those parts. Therefore there's only one click "next" for processing assigned tasks, so the output file will consist of those several part which are joined together. So instead of joining those parts after splitting, I will get it in one step, this way. ;)

ok..you are the boss.

Is it possible to get more data about why mp4box crashes when running Yamb? I get fairly frequent crashes at the very end of importing avi files and Windows just says mp4box.exe has crashed. Yamb doesn't fully realize this and reports that the process is complete.
Are there any things that could be done to improve this behavior?
Batch mode could be very helpful except that I have to watch Yamb for this crashing.

I have seen this too! I don't have this problem with the latest Yamb 2 preview (13 June) and Mp4box 0.4.4 (also released in june).
Batch mode would be awesome. On example for creating mp4 files is by having 2 columns to start with, one for video and one for audio, with additional columns able to be added. The left one should have the list of the output file names, and to the right of that the video, audio, subtitle streams etc. You can add everything in the table. Also there should be a mode where it added the audio and subtitle streams automatically in the table according to the file name convention.
For extraction just select the files, and have the mode in which the audo and video etc should be saved in (ie, so you can save the audio as raw and the video stream as mp4 for example).

About crashes : always using my latest MP4Box build doesn't hurt imo. :)
Note that there is a verbose mode now in the last Yamb builds. So, with it all MP4Box stdout lines are saved in the log file. Hoping that helps for debugging or to retrieve some issues (especially with mov files...yeahh don't ask me why.)

aaa...didn't think about that but why not.

I continue to have this problem with even the latest Yamb+mp4box. It has been happening about 20% of the time with Xvid AVIs from AutoGK.

You should post in the Yamb main thread for this problem...
btw, could you upload a short sample of your avi ?

mkv support would be great. Also a job queue would help if you have to mux lots of files, like when you encode a tv series.

Before I say anything, I wanna thank you for a tool that is an absolute necessity in all of my encodings.
I would like to see ability to handle more than one file. Like say 400 files ! I'm not kidding ! That's what I deal with. Imagine the pain to demux 400 AVIs, re-encoding the audio to AAC, then muxing to 400 MP4s ! Just try to count the number of clicks needed !
Also, drag and drop would be great.
I'm sorry, maybe some features I'm requesting have been already added. I'm still using the last stable 1.6 version since I don't like the new style and the last 2.0 preview version I tried failed me. I'm hoping you'll give a good reason to use the new version ! :D
By the way, the 1.6 version in your website doesn't include the latest updates that enable handling idx subtitles correctly. I had these backed up but my Hard Disk failed and I can't find the 1.6 updates anymore.
I don't care about matroska as I don't use it, plus I don't want bond to get mad at me ;)
Once again, thanks for a great job.

Exists already...

Well...I need more infos about that. Furthermore, I would like to know if it concerns MP4Box or Yamb. It's more or less related but for me, it's strongly different things.
And btw, bugs must be reported in the main thread, not here. :) It's more clear for readers and for me of course.

Sorry, I don't have it and I don't use it anymore. As far I know, muxing vobsub files into mp4 work flawlessly with the lastest builds.
About timecodes feature : just to be clear, isn't more a request for MP4Box than a Yamb feature ?

In such case I would like to change my vote from "Other things" to "A Batch Mode".
Well...I need more infos about that.
Dear Sir I'm sorry for not being clear. The last version I tried is for sure not the last version you made. What I tried was the first YAMB 2 preview you made, it failed me and I don't remember the details (though I think it was either regarding extracting AVC from MPEG2 TS or regarding integrating idx files). From the steps you took in making YAMB 1.x versions, I'm sure the failure I faced was fixed soon after that.
bugs must be reported in the main thread, not here.
I am truely sorry, and I am more sorry to reply again in regards to my bug. The truth is I don't remember the bug, and It was an old version, and above all, I was not complaining ;) I can NEVER complain about a program that is free in spite of the effort and time spent on it, and moreover, you are listening to us, correcting bugs and adding new features you may never need. A simple thank you is never enough.
In YAMB we trust :D

Fair enough...MP4Box doesn't support yet importation/extraction of AVC streams from TS files. Only MPEG-1/2 video streams.
Anyway, :thanks:

Kurtnoise13, if you plan to support mkv i would do it in an own gui independant of Yamb. otherwise there might be the danger of suffering from the same faith like many other guis: becoming bloatware

one big vote for VFR, and a smaller one for MKV :)

I use the mp4box command line, but if YAMB can have direct MKV > MP4 transmuxing (obviously with the exception of non standard streams), then I'd be tempted to use it; it would also be useful for people wanting to watch stuff on hardware players like Xbox, PS3, KiSS etc.
VFR would be nice too, but IMO this should be implemented into mp4box itself, however it would be a welcome addition whichever way it was added (which if you add MKV transmuxing, would be useful to deal with VFR MKVs). Also if MKV support was added it would be great if extracting of subtitles can be done too; DVD subpictures should be able to be muxed directly to MP4, and if other types were just extracted to the same directory with the same naming convention as the output file, then that means software such as VSFilter will still load the subtitles (and I've also found the KiSS 1600 will read external SSA subtitles etc too).

I tend to agree with you...:) and that's remind me that I said last year that I won't include matroska support in Yamb. eeech :D
imo, almost bloating softwares are due to some bad creation or bad design. So, wait and see...;)
VFR would be nice too, but IMO this should be implemented into mp4box itself
Yeah, it was also my 1st thought.

Yeah, via NHML (I've been doing this using tc2mp4 to generate an NHML file for muxing). What I meant was VFR from MKV timecode input. So rather than needing tc2mp4, you might be able to use a commandline like this:
mp4box -add "video.264":timecode="times.txt":par=40:33 -add "audio.aac" "output.mp4"

Kurtnoise13 - I like the visual layout of 1.6 more than 2.x. :)
