AVIs with AC3 track
Mikele

I've muxed a Divx4 avi with a 192 kbps 2.0 AC3 track with Nandub (interleave 64 to 96 ms), but the final avi plays with no sound. Directshow cannot render the AC3 stream, but it does render it if I play the AC3 file alone. I'm using Cyberlink's filters (PowerDVD 4), I've also tried iviaudio.ax but to no avail. Anyone knows what I'm doing wrong?

You problem is that the mpgaudio.ax is not installed properly, download the graphedit pack from Doom9 then install it.

hi, i've got the same problem: when i play the AC3 file, alone, in powerdvd it works, but when i mux, make the AC3track with the movie there is no sound when i play the final.Avi in win media player, or power dvd.
i've tried to register iviaudio.ax & mpgaudio.ax, maybe its not the good version?
if anyone could solve my problem plz!

I quite new at this, but I had the same problem, and solved it.
What I did was to go go the "guides", "audio related", and then
"avi with ac3" section.
I downloaded the audiofilters, intervideo filter (found in graphedit), and the reg. file to enable SP/dif output...
Maybe it can help you....i donīt know...
Good luck!

Try to find out if the error accours when you mux the files, or if itīs something in your player...
Be the way, try with powerdivx, thatīs the only player i got it to work with...

Clash, are you using the s/pdif output on a SoundBlaster Live sound card?
I have had problems similar to yours in the past and I can remember how frustrating it was.
The only player I got to work with divx+AC3 was PowerDivx NextGen. Set the Audio device to 'Default WaveOut Device' and the Speaker mode to 'SPDIF Output' in the 'AC3 Audio' tab of the Configuration window.
If you still get no AC3 output, close PowerDivx then try copying the iviaudio.ax and mpgaudio.ax files into your windows system folder (the iviaudio.ax version I am using is 2.4). Then open up a dos window, cd into windows\system then type the following lines:
regsvr32 /s iviaudio.ax
regsvr32 /s mpgaudio.ax
Reopen PowerDivx and try to play a divx file with AC3 audio.
Hope this helps.

I use XP Pro, and after BlackSun told me that I'd forgot to register mpgaudio.ax, everything works fine. I'm using PowerDVD 4's filters. The player I use is Zoom Player, but I've also tried with WMP and it works fine. Why don't you try PowerDVD instead of WinDVD?

What happens if you try to render the avi file in Graphedit? That should tell you exactly what the problem is.

Guys if your using the nasty little SoundBlaster and would like to get SPDIF going you should visit the HTPC forums @ http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/
These guys are SB gurus:)

@cnc76:
Once you have installed PowerDVD, all you have to do is register mpgaudio.ax (regsvr32 x:\path\mpgaudio.ax) and that should be enough. If it doesn't work, load Graphedit, add a File Source (Async) Directshow filter, select your avi file and try to render it (right click on Output / Render Pin) to see what happens. That's how you'll know if Directshow isn't able to properly render the file.
And nope, I'm from Argentina but my dad is italian, he's from Calabria and now he's living in Torino. Are you from Italia? I love that country :) I've been there some months ago and I really miss it.

Why are you using SPDIF output? Are you trying to connect to an external receiver? If you want to listen through your PC speakers, you should disable SPDIF.
Send me a private msg with your email and I'll send you the filters.

Did you install the audio filters from Doom9's download page? Also make sure your muxing and cutting the file at the same time. Which sound card are you using? Latest drivers installed? Have you tried playing your file with ZoomPlayer or BSplayer?

Mikele, you are using ZoomPlayer under WinXP?
Does it ever crash on you? I get frequent crashes... :scared:
BlackSun
19th January 2002, 11:50
I don't remember who has posted the picture: http://www.multimania.com/clashy4746/1.jpg but you can try to unregister the Morgan Stream Switcher, this filter is a bit crapy and may be the cause of your problems
pdontthink
19th January 2002, 13:31
Indeed. It appears that a version of
Morgan Stream Switcher is included in
the audiofilters.zip package needed for
ac3 playback, and I then found the file
to manually install a new version of MSS
on top of that, which gave me the ability
to then uninstall it via the Control Panel->
Add/Remove Programs. Then I can see the
different audio tracks in ZoomPlayer (whew!).
What a hack!
I am not really familiar with GraphEdit; is
that a better way to fix this issue?
But I still get serious crashing problems
with ZoomPlayer and other players under my
WinXP Pro, which make the audio problems
miniscule....

when I mux the AC3 with the video (interleave 160 - 384kbps), the rear right speaker seems to crackle when there is silence in the movie (interleave must be good becouse there are no sync problems).
Otherwise when I play the AC3 separately, there are no isues like this, everything is clean.
I have NimoPack 4.33 codec package installed.
I have: SbLive 5.1, Creative DTT2200 5.1 speaker (made for SbLive5.1)
AthlonXP 1700...
Have anyone experienced with this kind of problem?
Mikele
19th January 2002, 19:38
@pdontthink:
Yes, I use Zoom Player to play everything except DVDs. It works like a charm under WinXP. I guess that if you're getting crashes there must be something wrong in the way DirectShow builds its graphs. You could try Zoom's ability to build your own graph, it's rather complicated but very powerful and you'll always be sure that you're using the right filters.

Yah, guess I'll have to learn GraphEdit (ugh)
cuz I just figured out that it is the addition
of an extra AC3 track to my AVI that is the
cause of the crashes I've been experiencing
(they happen with WMP, ZoomPlayer, and PowerDivX
(although WMP is the worst) so it would seem to
be a system problem or something to do with the
way nanDub adds the 2nd audio track)

I can play ac3 AVI files just fine with Windows Media Player.
I am using the AC3Filter, but before installing that they still worked.
My issue is that the rear speakers are not in stereo -- I get both channels but they both come out of both speakers. It is much like the AC3 has been downmixed to Dolby ProLogic.
I have an SB Live Platinum 5.1. The SPDIF output is hooked up to the SPDIF input on my receiver and that is the way I wish it to remain. The receiver does in fact have an ac3 decoder.
I play DVDs with my Sony Playstation. It is hooked up using SPDIF to computer then to receiver. (Yes, my playstation goes through my computer, as does my VCR, my guitar, that's the way I am, changing is not an option, I also have redundant RCA sound output from my PS2 directly to my TV in case the computer is busy...)
I have the same problem when playing DVDs with my playstation. The rear speakers are not in stereo / it seems like ProLogic.
In SB Controls I have my speakers set as "Live Surround" and not 5.1. That is because if I set it to 5.1 things work even worse. :)
Any solution?
