Hi
I'm new to this world of encoding and decoding, but using DVD-RB Pro to encode my DVD9's to DVD5's.
I've heard and read that there is a way i can change / enhance / encode the DVD9 (with aspect ratio 4:3) to aspect ratio 16:9 widescreen using along with CCE.
I would like to know if it is possible to change the aspect ratio using DVD-RB Pro and CCE SP2? If yes, Can any of you techies help me through this effort plz.
Thanks & Regards,
Avi M.

Yes. You would select "Convert from LB 4:3 to 16:9" under "AVS Expert Options" of "AVS Options" on the "Options" tab in DVD Rebuilder Pro.

Thanks jdobbs will try that, may take a while to reply for the outcome to complete the entire process.
BTW, i tried to purchase DVD-RB Pro on your site, it's showing version available as 1.25.x instead of 1.26.x as mentioned in your sticky.
I checked too early?

The news page hasn't been updated yet, v1.26.0 is actually still in the process of being mailed to VIPs at the moment. If you donate you will get the latest (v1.26.0) mailed to you.
You can also donate/download from this link (http://www.jdobbs.com/Pages/DVDRebuilder/DVD-RB_Pro_download.htm).

BTW - That only converts a letterboxed 4:3 to a 16:9, It doesn't work on a traditional 4:3. It crops the black bars off and re-encodes. If your source is truly 4:3 to begin with, you will be losing part of the picture and stretching what is left.
Just wanted to make sure you understood that.

I assumed his title implied he understood that: Can i enhance letterbox aspect ratio 4:3 to widescreen 16:9 using DVD-RB Pro/ CCE SP2 -- but it's good to make it clear.

Yes SpazzHH, it is cropping good part of movie on all corners thought it is getting enhanced to widescreen aspect ratio 16:9.

Jbobbs, can you help me in how could it be possible with out losing any portion of movie?
Thanks,
Avi M.

If the source is truly 4:3 letterboxed (encapsulated widescreen), you will lose nothing except some or all of the black bars above and below the picture. If you are losing any other part of the picture it would lead me to believe the source is not actually 4:3 letterboxed.

I didn't want to open a new thread, so maybe I'll just drop my question in here... I have a 4:3 fulscreen NTSC DVD source that I want to convert to 16:9 widescreen. but it also has hardcoded letterboxing on the top and bottom... 70 on each side. leaving a picture resolution of 720 x 340 (or 640 x 340 after the 4:3 flag). with my current script... things seem to be a bit off...
crop(0,106,0,-106)
lanczosresize(720,480)
I know this is more of an AVISynth question, but I'm sure some of you will know about this. thanks!

Hi-
When doing a straight 4:3 to 16:9 conversion, you crop 60 from both above and below and then resize to 720x480. Yours is probably a 1.85:1 movie, if there's 70 pixels of black on both top and bottom, and there's supposed to be about 10 pixels left on both top and bottom after the conversion to 16:9. I'm not sure where cropping 106 pixels from both top and bottom comes from, unless you want to convert it to 2.35:1 for some reason, but, if so, you're going about it wrong.

Sure, jdobbs is no dummy. :)Hmm... there seems to be some debate about that. Especially when my wife discusses the amount of time I put into DVD-RB compared to the virtually non-existent donations... ;)
