View Full Version : DVD2SVCD and 4GB

Hi all,

I've been using DVD2SVCD for a while now to convert AVI's to DVD format and everything was working fine... until I upgraded my memory from 2GB

When I have 4GB (4x1GB sticks) installed, DVD2SVCD refuses to open, giving me this error:

The memory passes Memtest and any other stability/stress test thrown at it, and other video related apps work fine *shrug*

So far, (apart from removing memory) the only method I've been able to find that works is to use the boot.ini, MAXMEM command, but this obviously requires a reboot in-between uses and limits everything

So, would anybody happen to know how I might be able to limit the amount of memory available to DVD2SVCD only, or perhaps, ideally, how I can get it to work with the full 4GB ???

Many thanks in advance

-P

[edit] forgot to add the OS is Windows XP x64

Sorry, but I run with 2gb of Mem as as regards to D2S encoding and thats 1 gb more than thats needed. Windows XP cant handle 4gb anyway, from what I read elsewhere, and can create lots of problems.

My suggestion would be to run with 2gb mem or try it with 3gb (an extra 2x512).

Thanks for the reply ChickenMan
But as I posted, I would rather not have to resort to removing memory sticks or reboot using the MAXMEM command each time I use DVD2SVCD.

I'm using Windows XP x64 (not the 32bit XP) so that I can use the full 4GB of memory and everything except D2S works perfectly so far.

Although most of the apps I use are 32bit and therefore cannot use more than 2GB of memory for themselves by default, I usually have multiple programs running and like to know that I will not be slowing things by having to resort to swap space.

I've also been known to play around with virtual machines and the extra memory certainly comes in handy there :)

Unfortunately running DVD2SVCD in a virtual machine is also not working well (tested with xp and xp x64 so far), for some reason CCE seems to hang when closing and remains in the taskmanager, and so that method requires me to babysit the encoding process :(
