View Full Version : Menu Shrink/DVDShrink/ImgBrn Error

I ran a movie rip through MenuShrink, then in DVD Shrink stilled and custom resized some extras and burned it with ImgBrn which opened automatically from Shrink. I had an older version of ImgBrn but didn't realize it until it opened automatically. I didn't want to try an update in the middle of the proceedure.

Around the end of the burn I got an error (Clipboard 1) and then around the beginning of the Verify I got another (Clipboard 2.) The DVD would not play.

Is there anything I did basically wrong? Does DVDShrink play nice with Menu Shrink? Anyone know what those errors mean? :thanks:

"Manage attachments says I already uploaded Clipboard1&2, I don't see them however.

Edit: I can't see them in this post either. Maybe they'll show up later.

Edit 2: 15min later: The attachments didn't seem to load.

Typically an hardware problem. Use better media and upgrade the firmware.

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1740 newer firmware 1.0B
Thanks for that link. Is 1.0B the latest one? What does it do? The warning at the top of the page is disconcerting also. It says:

These pages are only for advanced users. Bad flashing could destroy your drive definitively. Read carefully the installation notes of your firmware before you upgrade. The Firmware Page and the drive manufacturer can't be responsable on REMEMBER: This is at your own risk!!!!

a imgburn log would tell a lot also Ah, next time I have a problem I'll include that. The log as it stands now doesn't go back to this incident.

I was using a DVD RW. I'll try another disk.

well don't worry about messing your drive up, yours has long ago become obsolete, much better newer drives are very economical, dvd burners have a short lifetime

your 1.06 firmware is over 3 years old

directions are included with the file I specified, which is the factory approved firmware for your drive

I see. I'd like to do it. I don't know how to do or verify a lot of the things the instructions say to do though. Like...

Connect drive to secondary IDE channel as Master

- Not sure how to verify this, but I can find out.

Disconnect all slave hardware from IDE secondary Master

- Take my other CD Rom cable off?

Use standard UDMA-2 IDE cable

- Not sure what this is. I have the 2" wide ribbon.

In problem case update without DMA mode, under Windows XP & 2000 in the device manager - "IDE ATA/ ATAPI controllers", you can switch from DMA to PIO mode

- Don't know if I have DMA mode or what?

Deactivate virusscanners, active desktop programs and packetwriting agents

- Not sure how to know if all active desktop programs are deactivated. Don't know what packetwriting agents are.

I always suggest using safe mode as it kills dma, and all the rest of that stuff from loading

you should be safe just doing that and flashing, unless you have another nec drive connected

some of the time the drive is already on it's way out and a flash won't fix it
