OKay, I have a bulk of Simpsons eps all in .mpg form and I would like to put a good 17 or 18 on my DVD-R discs, can I just make the DVD-R into a regular VCD? or will my player have problems reading it? I'm assuming Nero is the way to go with this, but I'm not sure how to do it, anyone know how or if its even possible?

DVD standard accepts MPEG-1 @352x240 NTSC or 352x288 PAL
But you must to Author your MPEG files to make it DVD-Video compliant.
You can't make a VCD on DVD-R, but you can use the mpeg file of a vcd/svcd to author your dvd.

Will it allow me to put on videos that arent exactly correct form like when you put a SVCD with 48khz of audio on a CD in Nero it stops you and asks if you want to rencode or go ahead not abiding by the standard, or is DVD mucy more picky or is it pretty leniant with Mpeg-1?

You can't use Nero...
Nero doesn't support DVD-Video Standard...
You need an Authoring program like MyDVD, DVDit, Ulead Movie Factory...
DVD Standard:
AUDIO: 48 OR 96 KHz
DVD video resolution:
MPEG-1:
NTSC (@23.97 OR 29.97 fps):
352x240
PAL (@ 25 fps):
352X288
MPEG-2:
NTSC (@23.97 OR 29.97 fps):
704x480
720x480
352x480
352x240
PAL (@ 25 fps):
704X576
720X576
352X576
352X288
Most of authoring software doesn't accept all of this options, but all of this is accepted as DVD-Video Standard

I'm wondering if I will be able to burn the VCDs and SVCDs that I have to DVD when I get a DVD burner. Will I be able to use those VCDs and SVCDs as a source? Can I then put more than one movie on a DVD? That seems the only way to justify the cost of the DVD-R/W media...
Will VCDs/SVCDs I've made with a variable bitrate be alright?
Has anyone been doing this?
