Assuming I use latest foobar2000 wirh appropriate 3rd party add-in, how exactly do I transcode xxx.dts to xxx.mp3 or xxx.wav? I've looked at all websites and cannot find clear instrutions on the subject. Surely there is an audio-guru who has done this already and can provide me with instructions.
An eager waiter!
EDIT: I believe I solved my own problem. The problem with the guides was they were not for v0.9.4.3, and in trying to understand them, I became hopelessly confused. One guide claimed to be for my version of foobar2000, but the visual instructions did not work as promised. My needs were more basic than all the guides were transcoding. My need is to take a dts file and transcode it to an mp3 file or wav file. If I ever need to transcode it to an ac3 file, and I can't get that part working, I'll just turn to BeSweet for help.:thanks:

I would be interested to know how you went about converting directly to a MP3 file. If you are using DTS, I am going to assume that is is a multichannel audio file - e.g. 6 channels. The MP3 specification only allows mono or stereo tracks, and so foobar2000 fails upon converting directly to MP3.
It is of course possible to just downmix to stereo using an external program and then convert to MP3, but I was just wondering how you did it in foobar2000. The "Convert 5.1 to stereo" DSP does exactly that, however the foobar2K Converter (or Diskwriter, as it used to be called) uses the unprocessed file to convert directly (and so will be unaffected by Equalisers and DSPs). Consequently, a multichannel input will fail as LAME (or whatever MP3 encoder you use) does not support more than two channels.
So, how did you transcode to MP3 from DTS? (assuming the DTS file was multichannel - if it was not then don't worry :)).
Cheers, Arite.
EDIT: converting to WAV is not a problem though as that just converts it to a multichannel WAV file of the same bit depth and sample rate.

I'm sure Foobar 0.9 has something similar.

Ah yes - thanks. The actual convertor settings in Preferences appear to be a bit more spartan than they used to be (I still have 0.8.3 in a different folder) - it contains less options. However, when "Convert to..." is selected it brings up a window which then allows DSP, ReplayGain etc. to be used.
Cheers, Arite.

Recently I make a post (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1011274#post1011274) to explain how convert a stereo file to 5.1 using foobar2000 v0.9.4.2 (or .3)
Is not the same problem but you can see the methods to:
1) Configure a encoder to accept the foobar output directly without intermediate wav files.
In this post (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=991707#post991707) you can see how encode to ac3 with Aften.
There are, by default, a Encoder Preset for Lame but is VBR. Maybe if you need a mp3 CBR (for avi usage) you need define another Lame Preset using like parameters something like:
-b 128 - %d
2) Select and configure the DSP functions to use when Convert.
A difference with v0.8: now we can define different settings for Convert and for Play.
In my post I use the DSP 'Channel Mixer' that can be used also to convert 5.1 to stereo for mp3.
There are also (by default) the DSP 'Convert 5.1 to stereo'.
You can use also foo_dsp_atsurround (http://www.andrewlabs.com/)
And, for me the better choice, the Dolby Prologic II downmix with foo_dsp_downmix (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=52887)

Try foo_input_dts.dll on input and convert 5.1 to stereo on active dsp side for output. The dvd was Pan's Labryinth and Gordianknot was the software. The ac3 audio was corrupted in my dvd and I was too lazy to take it back to WalMart.
Note: I only tried this once with my dvd and it worked!
