Possible to change aspect ratio on video file without otherwise altering file?

Hi,
I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but I have a .mpg video file that's 720x576. It's supposed to be widescreen, 16x9. Oddly, when I play it with media player classic and ffdshow, it doesn't play in 16x9. But if I play it on my xbox1 using xbox media center, it plays with the right aspect ratio (16x9).

I don't know what's wrong. But is there a way to change the flag somewhere? MPEG4 Modifier doesn't work because the file isn't an MPEG4 file.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

what you want to do is force aspect ratio in the player,
or use a diff player rather.

Restream can change aspect ratio flag on elementary mpeg2 streams without encoding.
Another tool is mpgtx

bsplayer.. press 1, 2 or 3.

1 = original
2 = 16:9
3 = 4:3

BUT dont get a new bsplayer. they come with spyware :/
the old but great (imho) bsplayer is:
