3pass encoding?

i don't remember exactly where, but i read somewhere about 3pass encoding..gives you slitly better quality and size control...
any ideas?

Well...The whole idea came out with the first release of GordianKnot. It allows to do something like pre-pass. It's like first pass - generates the .stats file which later you can load into Gknot and check whetver the resolution and filters (bilinear, soft bicubic,...) you have used are correct. Later you can change some settings and do the "right" first-pass (this time with perfectly selected resolution) and later second pass. Read the Gknot manual carefully.
When the Compressibility Check option has shown up, there is no need to do the whole pre-pass.
