Greetings all,
First let me apologize if this is in the wrong section...
After making a backup copy of my movie Happily Never After on my 'puter. I get no errors and no cause for alarm.
But when I place the DVD in my Panasonic DVD player, It plays the first four chapters (The Studio Crap) Then it just stops...
Is this a problem with my DVD player, or the computer I made the Backup on, or???

Thanks for any help on this problem.

How did you make the backup? The more details the better.

I used ripit4me... then Shrink DVD to get to fit on a 4.7GB disk..
I have the 'select target back up drive' to my dvd drive, and my temporary folder set to c:\n_after\
Is there anything else that I should be telling you?? extreme newbie here.

What happens when you play the back-up on the computer ?

Does it crash or give a read error ?

In my experience a computer can give a better inside of what's going on.

It could be a bad burn so try to play the image/files in your c:\n_after\ folder and check if it's the rip or the disk !

Good luck !

Ok Let me make a recommendation. Before going to far, try this. Download dvdshrink and DVD43.

Install dvdshrink and try burning your copy with that, it is an all in one tool that does a pretty good job. If for some reason it wont let you copy it (Usually due to disk encryption) try installing dvd43 then retry dvdshrink. Overall I Have had GREAT success with this combination.

Good luck

Side Note: this is only related to dvd43. Sometimes when dvd43 is running, it wont let your pc recognize when a new DVD is put in the drive. I get by this by closing dvd43 and then re inserting the disk.

Interesting, you recommend a software he already used and one that apparently isn't related to the problem he has... ;)

If the files play okay on your computer, I'd do a little research on your DVD player, and your burner. Certain players are very picky about the media they'll accept, some going so far as to require bitsetted DVD+Rs. Some just don't like cheap or high-speed media. Some settop players are really annoying. >(

Actually he said he used ripit4me... then Shrink DVD I made this recomendation only in an effort to reduce the number of steps s/he is taking to make a copy. as for the playability issue on his/her dvd player vs PC all I can say is that i ran into the same issue, it was because my dvd player was old and did not like reading dvd-r's.

Thanks

Any other thoughts?

Or am I going to have a crack open my owners manual?? That would be the first tome... lol

I would try foxyshadis advice. Try another brand of DVD ? a new rip/burn just to be sure ?

Thanks for the help and suggestions... I have decided that it is not the dvd media as I have made backups of other movies and they can play fine on either on my dvd players...

It mush be the way I have made the backup... just not sure what I changed...

o'well...

@RhYnO

You might want to try running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on your standalone DVD player. Maxell makes one that sells for about $10US...
