Wow for sure an impressive changelog they surely didn't sleep the whole time in Australia (looks in Stux direction :D), but seems nothing changed in terms of their ratecontroll hmm ;).
I wonder if Doom9 is gonna use it for the next codec compare i mean with ASP and AVC codecs it would be a awfull lot of work now and i think he allready decided to leave out ASP "old generation codecs ?" so no chance anymore for 3ivx to Show what it can or not against Nero (Ateme), DivX and XviD ;) (or someone of the Doom9 community or maybe MSU takes it for a ride then), but if you see it realisticly after the years of Development im quiet sure almost all of the 5 main ASP codecs available now give almost the same results in terms of visual quality with only slight differences (except Hdx4 optimized for encoding speed).
I think other thinks should be compared nowdays for ASP Codecs that are known (Quality wise) like SMP and Speed optimisations (i doubt their will be big changes anymore except in the Psychovisual area maybe by XviD) also if you need all those interlace features surely 3ivx set the standard if it works like excepted together with DivX :P, but we have to look into the future not backwards AVC, VC-1,VPX ,JPEG2000, Dirac and Snow are the things to invest time into and ofcourse more HVS (Psychovisual) research like done with XviD is important for every codec.

Stux
8th June 2007, 12:13
Yes,

We are working on SMP optimizations, but basically we see ASP as pretty much done now.

Future focuses for 3ivx are definately our AVC Decoder and Encoder projects.

We plan to add AVC support to the whole suite.

This will be in my codec test I'll do in a month or 2. :) An unlimited version would be nice for this purpose however, since the test is likely to take longer than a month (it being done in what little spare time I have). ;)

Is this the first DShow Filter with fragmented MP4 support, ore are there other too?

Are there plans to support 3GPP Timed Text/MPEG-4 Streaming Text in 3gp/mp4 files?

I believe so. BUT I think its possible we might've had to disable fragmented output in the final release because it wasn't iso compatible. It will definately make a comeback if that's the case though.

Are there plans to support 3GPP Timed Text/MPEG-4 Streaming Text in 3gp/mp4 files?

No plans currently I believe

Congratulations on the new version guys.... Long time no see!

I have to say I really like the ability of being able to generate MPEG-4/AAC encodes directly to either the .MP4, .MOV or .AVI containers...

Cheers

One of my favourite features is that you can remux a video into the MP4 container and have the PAR in the video stream rewritten by the Muxer.

Not sure,

Our AVC support is very preliminary, but that shouldn't be the problem. I've downloaded your clip and will give it a test when I get back to the office.

I have tried to reach your web but it is impossible
I am interested in MPEG-4 anamorphic encoding, but the above links <look here!> and <MPEG Mediator>.
do seem not working correctly.

Any suggestion? :thanks:

CheersSorry Fervict but my website is off-line at the moment...

My cable modem requires replacing... It should be back up and running within the next week or-so...

I am a big fan of 3ivx, but when I downloaded the codec (I had 4.5, so I used the serial number from the store to register 5.0) and installed, I can't view MPEG4 ASP video's. Explorer.exe shoots the processor to 100% and wmplayer.exe just hangs. Is there something about 5.0 that would cause this? Other videos play fine. The explorer.exe happens even if I just look into a directory with the MPEG4 ASP movie. Plays fine with 4.5.

One of the features of 5.0 is that it enables video previews in explorer. Its possible that some sortof bug is being triggered by this.

Have you tried restarting your machine?

I did try rebooting. It must just not like that video. Strange that 4.51 plays it fine (I checked, it's using the 3ivx codec for audio and video). Other videos play fine. Other video software I have installed:

WMP11
Zune (for streaming to my XBox 360)
Itunes
Quicktime
Nero 6
Elecard Mpeg2 Plugin for WMP

I am running XP MCE 2005.

looking into it now

It looks like the Mov audio track has some parameters set to crazy values. Probably a bug in Apple's AAC 5.1 implementation.

The crazy values are causing the audio decoder to hit end of stream after the first frame.

Ie, no decoding.

We'll add a work-around in the next update.

If you PM me your email, we can arrange a seed so that you can test the fix when its ready.

adrianmak
27th June 2007, 07:59
does it need powerful cpu for decoding ?

Stux
27th June 2007, 10:33
does it need powerful cpu for decoding ?

Its all relative. the 3ivx Decoder is very efficient, and it has automatic complexity reduction, so give it a go and see.

It is certainly one of the fastest ASP decoders, and significantly faster than AVC decoders.

But 5.0 is a point oh release, and we haven't finished optimizing it

Stux

It looks like the Mov audio track has some parameters set to crazy values.

The crazy values were actually because this mov uses SoundDescriptionV2 which is a new update to the mov file format which apple introduced for high resolution multichannel audio in QT7.

Our splitter doesn't know about SDV2 and thus can't decode the clip.

We're adding support for SoundDescriptionV2 for 5.0.1 which should fix the problem.

* Interlaced decoding is not implemented for S-frames (GMC)

DS Media Muxer
* Fragmented Muxing is not ISO compliant and has been disabled.

Mac QT Media Importer
* Media Importer is not release quality. You can install it via a Custom Install on Mac OS X
* Media Importer is PowerPC only.

Non Issues

DS Muxer
* The splitter can not be connected to the output of the muxer.

Permanent Issues

Core
* XviD streams prior to build0000 (ie up to and including 0.9 stable
series) with non-multiples of 16 are not MPEG-4 compliant and exhibit
occasional glitches. There is no work-around.
* NVops (not coded PVops) can be used to more efficiently represent dropped frames or frames which are identical to the previous frame. NVops are not correctly handled by the QuickTime MPEG-4 Stream hinter and will cause a -5402 error when attempting to hint a file which contains NVops. The solution is to not use NVop coding. The 3ivx DirectShow Media Muxer can be used to remove NVops from an already coded bitstream. (This is currently still an issue with QT6.5)

QT Codec
* QuickTime 7's native datarate setting is now in kilobits/sec. There are
1000 bits in a kilobit, and 1024 bytes in a kilobyte, according to the
QuickTime Player. Due to a work-around for an error in QT7's kilobit->byte
conversion, third party applications which do not use the QT7 codec
selection dialog to obtain a datarate from the user (in kilobits/sec) may
end up undershooting by a factor 1.024 (roughly 2.5%). In order to correct
for this multiply the datarate you enter into affected applications by
1.024. This is only an issue when using QT7.

Win QT Codec
* When one movie has two or more video tracks, each encoded with 3ivx
there may be problems playing the video when DirectDraw Acceleration
is enabled in the QuickTime settings control panel. Work-arounds,
disable DirectDraw acceleration, or DirectDraw.
* Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0.2 crashes when loading the 3ivx QT Codec. There is a work-around available, simply rename the CompilerQuicktime.prm' file to 'zCompilerQuicktime.prm'. The file is located at 'C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0\Plug-ins\en_US\"

DS Splitter
* Windows Media Player 11 does not allow seeking when opening mov or mp4 files from within a library. The Solution is to open these files
directly.

DS Video Decoder
* Windows Media Player 11 does not post process and ignores
"Auto-Select for Video Filter Level" in the configuration pane

Are you really sure that this should fix the seeking problem? Because afaik the main purpose of this reg tweak is to make WMP recognize the fileformat.
