View Full Version : Audio delay

Hello, I am new to encoding. It was suggested that I try Auto Gordian. I am using v2.4, and I'm trying to encoding a file with the XviD codec. The video that I'm encoding is:
MPEG2 720x480 NTSC 16:9 letbox PGC 1. Length: 1:55:43:27
I am using AC3 6ch audio track, custom size 1400mb output, and I've tried using all of the Audio type outputs. The video looks great, but the audio track is always slightly delayed. Just wondering what I can do to fix that?
Thanx-
- Scott

Hi
You might have to look at your ripping method, if this movie is a late release it will most likely have the latest protection also.
Try this link, it is the AGK more F.A.Q 2.14 should help.

good luck.

@dipdog:
you can use VirtualDubMod which is bundled with AutoGK to fix the sync issue that seems to occur every once in a while.
you should be able to find the exe for VDM under your AutoGK install folder by default under program files.
i do not remember the exact steps as i dont have VDM in front of me, the the gist of it is as follows:
1- open the AVI file
2- from one of the top menus find an entry called "streams"
3- right click the stream and enter a value in the "audio delay"
4- save as
5- make sure to set video to "direct stream copy"
its about playing around a little bit until you understand what kind of value you need to move the audio backwards or forwards in time.
good luck!

Thanx for suggestions. I am playing around with VirtualDub, and so far it's working well.
The movie is "To Live and Die in LA", which is an older movie. So I would think that it would not be strongly protected. And I'm converting to AVI from an already ripped disk, which works fine by itself. So, I guess I'm just a little confused why it is happening at all.
HI
What do you mean with
3- right click the stream and enter a value in the "audio delay"
i am having the same problem
not getting this

Once you open a file, click Streams > Stream List, right-click the audio file and select Interleaving. You will see where to enter an audio delay. These instructions are for VirtualDubMOD.
ok, i found that, now the audio is about 1 min and 45 sec before film, how do i add this in, ?
It says in tutorial "set an appropriate number of milliseconds (positive or negative) in the box labelled "Delay
audio track by"
if audio is 1 min before film, how do i add this in, do i use + - 1min
Sorry my English

Use positive values if the audio is playing to early and negative values
if the audio is playing to late.

Hi,
Have you done the followings:
- Open VDM
- load your avi file
- click on stream list
- right/click on the stream
- click on interleaving
If so you should have an option box open with the indication
"use positive values if audio is playing too early, and negative values if the audio is playing too late"
If you can't get it to work or you can't do the maths then this tip is not for you :(
You could try the other tip of MoreFAQ 2.14: use DvdShrink in re-author mod or ... try another hobby, like playing to WoW :)
Cheers

Hi,
You are not following the MoreFAQ 2.14, only reading/applying the middle and end of it. If this is a new method of quick reading, let it down.
From the 2.14 beginning:
Load the file into VirtualDub, VirtualDubMod, or NanDub.
Set BOTH "Video"(VirtualDub, VirtualDubMod and NanDub) and "Audio" (VirtualDub and NanDub - VirtualDubMOD>"Streams>"Stream list") to "Direct Stream Copy".
Key words are "both video and audio to direct stream copy".
No offense but there is a newbie section for newbie questions, you are testing the patience of the AGK forumers not always willing to repeat again and again this kind of answers, specially if you don't know what you are doing. You need a minimum of computer/windows/AutoGk experience to get things going.

You said the audio is playing 1 min 45 seconds before the video - entering "500" will only delay it half a second. You'll need to take the number of seconds times 1000 to get the value you need.
Rather than save the entire video over and over until you find the right value, you can save a range of a minute or two. You cannot preview the delay within VirtualDubMod.

But there is something terrible wrong with your encode. 1.45 minutes video delay?
I suspect there was something fishy with your rip.
Try the suggestions given by BigDid and others, and read some more tutorials..

Taurus, a 1 minute 45 second delay means 105 seconds, or 105000 ms (milliseconds).

Shame on me!
But for my defence: 1 Minute 45sec is such a big audio skew,
my mind was set to 1 Sec. 450 milliseconds:D.
Sorry for this misdirection!

Hi fellas, finally got it :helpful:
Thanks for stick around with me on this, had to add in -314000ms to match audio and video, the time was more.
Thx again fellas.
:thanks:

Sorry for this misdirection!
Not a problem, my correction was for ofi's benefit anyway so he'd better understand the delay he'd need to correct the file.

I really didn't see the need for another audio thread so I'd figure to try my luck here. Is there any way to disable the normalizer setting to be disabled?

mr soft made mention of ripping method earlier in this thread... and i must say, that does seem to be the source of why AutoGK will give you resulting out of sync files.
i do all my rips in full disk mode, but i tested ripping in movie only mode, or just running the rip through DVD2One in movie only mode, and the audio sync issues were none existent on the resulting encodes.
it seems that by ripping in "main movie only" mode, and hence re-authoring and recreating the DVD structure that the issue gets resolved.
