View Full Version : Divx/VCD/SVCD to DVD Video (Vob) format. Which tools do i need??

Hi, I am a complete newbie but I have been feeding my head for over a week now reading again and again all the info I can find on Doom9, Digital Digest and VCDHelp.
The one thing I really want to know what to do is the one thing I can find no info on.
I want to convert various formats (most importantly DivX, SVCD and VCD) to DVD Video (Vob) format so that these can be burned to DVD-R and viewed on any home DVD player, including those which cannot play anything other than standard DVD Video.
I would appreciate it if anyone can point me to the tools I need and maybe point me to some appropriate guides (or help me with the methods I need).
I realise this seems to be the inverse of what most people using this site are trying to acheive but I am hoping that these formats can be converted to DVD Video format.

most mpeg2 encoders (tmpg, cce, lsx) have DVD templates.. just load your source and encode.. then read my miniDVD guides.. besides splitting the vobs which you don't have to do for DVDs it's the exact same procedure.

I've had a bit of a play and I'm still no wiser. Tmpg wouldnt let me load the Mpg file from the SVCD.
As my example, I have an SVCD (mpg) file on my HDD which I want to convert to DVD Video. Do I need to split this to video and audio first and then create the VOB or can the whole thing be block converted? What tools do i need for each job and why?
Same questions also for VCD and DivX.
Also (just to complicate matters) The SVCD I have is 2 CDs so I would like to eventually join these 2 segments together (flawlessly if the SVCD rip allows) so it plays as it would have on the original DVD. Would it be best to splice the 2 mpg portions of the SVCD together before converting to VOB OR would it be best to encode each portion as a seperate VOB portion and have the DVD player play them as a seamless stream. How would I go about this?? (I did say I am a total newbie but I am hoping to learn fast).
