Real time AVI to DV (firewire)

A year or two ago I came across a small app (not free unfortunately) that would take any AVI as input and sent out as DV on the firewire port in real time.

I can't find it now, so I was wondering if anyone knew the app I was talking about, or knew another way I could achieve my aim - playing out AVI (and possibly MPEG and AVS) files on the firewire port as DV - in real time.

I've had a quick go with Graphedit, and I've managed to render a DV-AVI quicker than realtime, but I can't see how to send that out via firewire (if that's possible with Graphedit) or how to encode audio.

Can anyone advise?

You're on the right track! You need to connect the output from a DV muxer to your DV cam's output filter. In the list of filters, expand the Video Capture Sources category. You should see something like "Microsoft DV Camera and VCR" - this is the one you need (even though it is listed as a source).

I've attached an example graph - depending on your browser you may need to open it in a different app to see it full size. The sample AVI file is "clock.avi" taken from the main WINDOWS directory on an XP system. The graph ran just fine and I saw the clock on my camcorder's display, along with the audio (beeps).

Thanks Johnny, I wouldn't have thought of looking under Video Capture Sources.

The app I was thinking of was Video2DV, which makes things slightly simpler than using Graphedit, but isn't free.

Does anyone know of a way to this kind of thing via the command line, or even on Linux?

PS Is the second ACM Wrapper a mistake? I only needed one for my graph.

Well, it was working okay last night, but now I'm trying it on my work computer using the same camera, and it's not working - Graphedit refuses to join DV Muxer to Microsoft DV Camera and VCR, because "they can't agree on a connection." - that's using the same clock.avi file.

Is there anything that can be done to track down the problem?

ETA: The DV Encoder filter was set to NTSC instead of PAL :rolleyes: The graph plays, but nothing appears on the camera...
